Social and Pragmatic Language

Social Pragmatic Language skills are critical to making and maintaining relationships with others. Children typically learn social skills through observations of their family and peers as well as trial and error. Social language includes verbal language such as greeting others, making comments, asking questions, and sharing stories. It also includes nonverbal language such as facial expressions to convey emotions in addition to body proximity and gestures to show engagement. Some disorders that require pragmatic or social skills support include Autism, Anxiety, and Down Syndrome.
